Indian space startup TakeMe2Space plans to launch its MOI-1A satellite aboard a SpaceX rocket on October 1, Reuters reported. The company describes it as India's first orbital computing satellite because it is designed to process data in orbit instead of sending raw information back to Earth.
MOI-1A weighs less than 50 kg and carries Nvidia Orin NX edge-computing processors. TakeMe2Space said it has signed 23 customers for the mission, including geographic information system companies and educational institutions, with commercial users in agriculture, mining, supply-chain management and insurance.
Customers will be able to upload containerized AI models to the satellite. When it passes over a selected area, those models can process data and send the analysis to Earth rather than the full underlying dataset. For learners, the example connects AI inference, edge computing and satellite data processing in one startup project.
TakeMe2Space plans larger satellites from 2027 to increase computing capacity and reduce costs. The company also aims to offer in-orbit cold storage for critical data, according to Reuters.
