Ahmedabad-based startup Ignosis AI is using around 200 AI agents in its debt-collection operation, according to The Economic Times. The company says its agents can decide when to call, how to follow up and whether to offer a penalty-fee waiver within preset limits.
Ignosis said it manages collections for four to five lakh borrowers a month and that AI handles about 70-80% of cases without human intervention. Human agents join 20-25% of cases when conversations become sensitive or the AI cannot progress. Ignosis also uses AI for credit-risk underwriting for small businesses, but the company says its system does not approve or reject loans on its own.
The story matters because it shows how Indian startups are applying AI agents to financial services while keeping people involved in sensitive cases and lending decisions. The company says financial data is converted into internal signals rather than exposing raw account information to the large language model or voice agents.
Ignosis said a second AI agent audits calls after deployment, while lenders retain control over the calling infrastructure and can stop contact with a borrower in real time.
