Reasoning Preparation: The Question Types You Must Master
Reasoning is often the highest-scoring section in competitive exams — but only for students who know the question types cold. It doesn't need a huge syllabus or memorisation. It needs pattern recognition, and that comes from practice. Here's where to focus.

Reasoning Is About Patterns, Not Theory

Unlike GK, you can't "memorise" reasoning. Every question is a small puzzle, and the more of each type you solve, the faster you spot the pattern. That's why practice matters more here than reading — your speed comes from having seen the pattern before. Start with the Reasoning quizzes and build from there.
You can't read your way to a good reasoning score. You solve your way there.

The High-Frequency Topics

A handful of topics appear again and again, so master these first:

Puzzles & Seating Arrangement — the biggest chunk in most exams, and the most rewarding once you get comfortable.
Syllogism — fast marks once you learn the logic (for example, "All cats are animals" type statements).
Coding-Decoding, Series and Blood Relations — quick, pattern-based, and very repeatable.
Direction Sense and Ranking — easy marks with a little practice.

Puzzles Need Reps, Not Notes

Puzzles scare a lot of students, but they follow predictable structures. Solve two or three every day and within weeks you'll read them faster and set them up correctly the first time. Don't just read solutions — attempt first, then check.

Always Practice Against the Clock

Reasoning marks are lost to time, not difficulty. Once you're comfortable with a topic, time yourself using mock tests and previous year questions. Keep practising on Quiz Mitra and reasoning becomes the section you look forward to.
