Canva has introduced Craft, an image-generation model designed to create both visual artwork and practical design materials. According to The Verge, the model uses a two-stage process: it plans a design before generating the image. Canva says this approach improves precision, consistency and control, particularly for complex compositions.
Craft supports resolutions up to 2K and more than 30 aspect ratios. It can produce social media posts, marketing materials, realistic scenes and digital art. The Verge reported on October 22, 2026, that Canva trained the model on millions of human-created templates, including presentations, infographics, menus and social media designs. Craft ranked fourth on Design Arena's AI image-generation leaderboard at the time of publication, behind three OpenAI models.
For students, content creators and small businesses, the model's focus on layout and readable text could be useful when preparing posters, presentations and promotional graphics. Unlike a general image generator, a design-oriented model aims to handle the arrangement of elements as well as their appearance.
Canva made Craft available globally through Dream Lab. The company also said it plans to support connections with AI agents through the Model Context Protocol and introduce faster versions called Craft-fast and Craft-ultrafast.
