OpenAI is preparing to make its frontier AI models and Codex coding agent available through Google Cloud, according to Reuters. The arrangement gives businesses another way to access OpenAI technology through an established cloud computing provider.
The models, including GPT-6 Astra, are expected to be offered through Google Cloud's Model Garden and Marketplace. Reuters reported that enterprise customers would be able to use existing Google Cloud spending commitments to purchase them. Google's access controls, data-governance tools and infrastructure would also support deployment.
The agreement is significant for companies adopting AI in regulated sectors, where managing data access and governance is an important part of deployment. It also shows how cloud platforms are becoming distribution channels for competing AI developers, not just providers of computing infrastructure.
Reuters reported that Google is the latest major cloud provider to distribute OpenAI models, following the company's expansion to Amazon Web Services after its exclusive Microsoft arrangement expired in April.
