Google announced on October 15, 2026, that it was expanding initiatives intended to bring artificial intelligence into education and other sectors in India. The education programme includes additional partnerships to extend the Google AI Educator Series, which offers training intended to help teachers develop practical AI skills. Google presented the work as part of a wider effort to connect AI research with real-world needs.

The company said it had trained more than 80,000 educators across India since May. It announced new partnerships with Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Sikkim and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. Google also said the educator programme would be available as free, self-paced online training aligned with India's National Education Policy 2020. At the time of the announcement, the online training was available in English, with Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, Assamese, Odia and Punjabi versions expected later in October. The initiative also includes support for educators at 100 Atal Tinkering Labs through ATL Saathi, a Gemini-powered desktop application for STEM curricula.

Teacher training matters because introducing AI into education requires more than providing access to software. Educators need opportunities to understand how the tools work, where their outputs can fail and how they fit within subject-specific learning goals. For Indian students, teachers' practical knowledge can influence whether AI is used to support learning or simply generate answers.

Google also announced collaboration with institutions including IIT Bombay and the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to connect educational AI research with academic settings. The announcement did not specify a completion date for all the partnerships or training expansions.
